Rajendra Singh Baisthakur
A few decades ago, a people’s representative, in fully drunken state chased women on the streets of Paris, was arrested and was released with the intervention of Indian Embassy. He was deported and on the plane he caught hold of an air-hostess and to rescue her from his clutches one of the Pilots had to manhandle him. When he landed in Bombay airport his supporters who gathered in large numbers took him in a procession shouting ‘Zindabad’. No action was taken on him. As far as I know this was the first case of celebrating a wrong doer in India. Earlier such people were hiding their faces in shame.
Well, in recent years we came to know about many people, whom courts sent to jail, continued to be leaders and had been re-elected. Their names would make a long list including PMs, CMs, ministers, rapists, goondas, factionists and even supporters of terrorists.
I can understand that some people have criminal minds. But I don’t understand how voters have been electing such people as their representatives to rule them. When we elect such people we have no right to say that something is going wrong or that there is no progress. So the real accused are the electors who voted for these criminals. India can really progress when we vote wisely.
