RRR Update: Record breaking streaming, satellite rights business

  • Leading OTT ZEE5 gets Satellite and digital rights
  • Rights purchased at whoping price of Rs. 325 crore
  • Film set to release on October 13  worldwide

Hyderabad: Ram Charan, NTR and Rajamouli’s combo flick RRR was purchased for a whopping price of Rs. 325 crore by leading OTT Company ZEE 5 for satellite and digital rights in all languages. This is said to be the first movie in India to be sold at a huge price for non-theatrical rights.

It is known that NTR and Ram Charan are going to play the heroes of RRR (Roudram Ranam Ruthiram) in the internationally acclaimed period action film directed by Rajamouli.

In this movie, NTR and Ram Charan are playing the roles of Telugu historical heroes Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama Raju. They are paired with English actress Olivia Morris and Hindi actress Alia Bhatt

The shooting of the film was postponed for almost eight months due to Corona. The film, which is currently having its climax shooting, has once again been postponed. The film is set to release worldwide on October 13.

With this, the pre-release business of this film is going on in an unknown manner. The movie seems to have sold a huge amount of non-theatrical rights.

The theatrical rights for the Telugu states, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Hindi version, overseas rights, satellite and digital rights business have reached around Rs 900 crore.

The North Indian theatrical rights of the film, as well as the satellite rights, had been acquired by Bollywood production company Pen Indian Pvt Ltd for a large, undisclosed sum.

The R&R team announced that Pen Movies not only owns the North theatrical rights but also the satellite and digital rights, including electronic, for all other languages.
