Pfizer’s Covid vaccine, first in the world to be rolled out

  • UK clears out Pfizer BioNtech’s Covid 19 vaccines
  • Will be rolled out from next week
  • UK becomes the first country to approve vaccine

London: The UK became the first country to approve Covid-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNtech. The UK government accepted the recommendation from independent Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to approve Pfizer-BioNtech’s Covid-19 vaccine for use which will be rolled out next week, UK government said on Wednesday. Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said that the emergency use of the vaccine in fight against Covid pandemic makes a historic moment.

Now we are focused on moving with the same level of urgency to safely supply a high quality vaccine around the world, Albert further added. Hospitals are ready to receive the vaccine, UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock said with happiness. UK has ordered for 20 doses for 20 million people. But the challenge arises in distribution as vaccine and it should be stored at ultra cold temperatures.

UK Government is in a plan to distribute vaccine first to frontline health care workers, nursing home residents followed by senior citizens. Except little pain for temporary and flu like reactions, no side effects were seen as per companies who say the efficacy is 95%. Russia and China are two countries which already approved vaccines without waiting for the final result of the clinical trials. The USFDA is also in a plan to approve emergency authorization of the vaccine from Pfizer, BioNtech which will be known after the meet which will be held on Dec 10th. If the members of the meet are convinced, US will nod approval within 24 hours. US is coming up with another vaccine developed by Moderna which states its efficacy is 94% and once they get permission from USFDA, will start vaccination from Dec 21st.
