KCR is lying on crop damage assistance: Sridhar Reddy

  • 75 percent of SDRF comes from Centre
  • Let KCR announce another Rs.10,000 to the affected farmers

Bharatiya Kisan Morcha State president Kondapalli Sridhar Reddy said that the farmers of Telangana became the scapegoats due to non-implementation of PM Fasal Bima Yojana in the state by BRS government. He said that the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao announced Rs 10,000 under State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) by claiming that the state will not ask centre for crop loss assistance. It is a blatant lie by KCR, he added.

Reddy said that the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), constituted under Section 48 (1) (a) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, is the primary fund available with State Governments for responses to notified disasters. He said that the Central Government contributes 75 percent of SDRF allocation for general category States and union territories and 90 percent for special category States and union territory states (NE States, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir). “KCR is trying to deceive the farmers by giving false information. The annual Central contribution to the SDRF is released in two equal instalments as per the recommendation of the Finance Commission. SDRF shall be used only for meeting the expenditure for providing immediate relief to the victims”, he said.

Bharatiya Kisan Morcha president demanded the government to announce the compensation of another Rs 10,000 from state government as the farmers lost everything with the unseasonal rains as 75 percent of amount in the first Rs 10,000 coming from Centre.
