Hyderabad: How can one forget the legendary director Dasari Narayana Rao for his services to Tollywood? Today, Tuesday, is the ace director’s 74th birth anniversary and on this occasion mega star Chiranjeevi took to twitter demanding Padma award to Dasari. The tweet reads, “Remembering Darshakaratna Dasari Narayana Rao on his birth anniversary. His contribution to films and film industry will be remembered forever. It is quite sad that an eminent film maker like Dasari has not been conferred with a Padma Award until now. I feel it would be great if the Government confers on him the posthumous Padma Award at least now.”
Dasari Narayana Rao who is said to be a guru for many directors in Tollywood was born on May 4th, 1947, in Palakollu, WG dist. He was known as ace actor, screenplay writer, lyric writer, and many other feathers to his hat along with direction department. He has directed more than 150 films in different genres. For this his name entered into Guinness Book Of records for directing highest number of films. Stars like Mahesh babu, Mohan Babu, Srihari (late), R.Narayana Murthy were introduced to Telugu Film industry by legendary director Dasari. May 4th is declared as ‘Directors Day’ in the history of Tollywood.
Dasari became active in politics in 2004 after Congress party came to power once again. He took charge as the Minister of State for coal and mines in 2004. He was elected to Rajya Sabha in 2006. He launched Udayam Daily news paper in 1984 to counter Eenadu.
The ace director passed away at the age of 70, on May 30th, 2017, due to prolonged illness. But Tollywood will remember him forever for his services to film industry. His wife Padma is no more. He is survived by two sons and a daughter.
