“Corruption”

The root of all evil

The destroyer of every system

The pest in our society

The demon that suffers every idealist

The silent killer of all good

Is rooted in our own hearts.

It is the temptation for more

It is the motive to go wrong

It destroys law abiding man

It helps injustice grow

It neutralizes efforts to do good

It leaves people disheartened

It destroys positivism in man

When rampant leads to revolution.

Corrupt are not just the employees

Contractors, businessman, industrialists,

All those who do not follow ethics

Those who exploit situations

Be he a coolie or a tycoon is corrupt

And an enemy of all in the society.

No religious guru talks about it

No government controls it

No politician speaks against it

No intellectual writes about it

Any voice that rises against it

Will be a lone voice easy to crush

All accepted this as inevitable evil.

Be less selfish and help your neighbor

Said a great Telugu poet, Gurajada

If followed in letter and spirit

Can root out corruption

More effectively than digitization.
