Bodhan Fake Passport Scam: Bangladesh nationals involved

• Links between Bangladesh nationals and Nizamabad residents
• 2 Police Inspectors were arrested related to scam
• 72 passports obtained fraudulently, says CP Sajjannar
• No Rohingyas, says TRS MLA Shakeel

Hyderabad: Eight people were arrested in the fake passport scam which is shaking Telangana right now. Soon after the passport scam busted by police, four Bangladesh nationals and two from West Bengal were arrested for allegedly having links with the racket. Two persons from police department of Bodhan town were also arrested in this case. Police say that three more persons were absconding from the day racket was busted and hunt is going on for them.

By using fake documents and addresses of Bodhan town of Telangana, as many as 72 passports had been obtained in an illegal manner as per CP Sajjannar. Out of 72, 19 people left the country and 49 are yet to be traced by police department.
Main accused Parimal Bain, a Bangladesh national who illegally entered India in 2013 through sea passage by boat and has been subsequently living in Bodhan of Nizamabad district.

How the case came to light

The information was received by the Hyderabad police from an immigration officer of Rajiv Gandhi International Airpiort, Shamshabad, on January 24th, 2021. As per it, three Bangladesh nationals had approached departure immigration counter intending to depart to Dubai with the help of fake passports. All three were named as –Sanjib Dutta, Ramu das and Mondal Sandip, in the complaint. These three revealed name of Shahnaj Pail alias Sabuj of West Bengal helped them in getting Indian passports with fake adhaar cards. They also revealed the details of the passport racket.
Reports sent to Regional Passport Officer (RPO) to cancel these passports and the police are coordinating with UIDAI Adhaar authority regarding the cancellation of 72 adhaar cards and special teams were formed to trace the remaining passport holders and absconding accused as per CP Sajjannar.

War between TRS and BJP

This took a political turn. A war or words between BJP and TRS leaders in Nizamabad district ensued. BJP leaders said all these were Rohingyas and Bodhan MLA Shakeel was involved in the scam. “I will write a letter to home ministry on this issue,” said the BJP leaders. TRS MLA Shakeel challenged BJP leaders that if any Rohingya is identified in his constituency, he will resign immediately.
