Chennai Conference, 24-26 September, to focus on uncorrected refractive error among other challenges  

The fourth India Vision Institute (IVI) International Optometry Conference – Eye Health in a Changing World in Chennai, from September 24 to 26, will focus on the over 100 million people in India who lack access to vision care and a pair of corrective glasses. Uncorrected Refractive Error remains a major challenge affecting livelihoods in underprivileged adults and the education of children.

The conference will be inaugurated by HE Taga Masayuki, Consul General for Japan in Chennai. It will have national and international experts in vision science and eye health care discuss issues and challenges through some 60 keynote talks, panels and parallel sessions.

The three-day conference at the IIT Madras Research Park, Taramani, Chennai can also be accessed online from around the world. It will play host to some 600 international and national experts, industry leaders, eye health professionals and students.

Hoya Vision Care is the Platinum supporter of the conference. Hoya Vision Care’s CEO Alexandre Montague will be present at the conference inauguration on September 25.

IVI’s CEO Vinod Daniel said “The conference will focus on the burning issues of vision care and public eye health, including themes such as Child Eye Health, Myopia and new technology to manage Myopia, and developments in contact lens technology, among others.”

“It will also look at public eye health concerns and ways to involve industry to address Uncorrected Refractive Error, in addition to Education themes for students and young professionals,” he noted.

A pre-conference day workshop on September 24 will include focused sessions on teaching optometry, low vision management, ocular prosthesis, contact lenses, and a Platinum sponsor talk by Dr May Zhang, Global Head of Professional Affairs, Hoya Vision Care.

The conference participants will have access to over 22 hours of live and interactive learning experience covering topics from different areas of eye health.

A Trade Fair organised as part of the conference will showcase innovation and products by leading eye health companies.

Keynote speakers at the conference include experts in eye health and senior representatives from industry, among others. Hoya’s Joanne Ling will hold a session on ‘Exploring Breakthrough in Spectacle Lens Technology’.

Panel Discussions will be on topics such as Clear Vision 2030, Industry Response to Myopia, Navigating the Future of Optometry Education and Awareness and Advocacy in Eye Health.
