THE CHURCH

Divine Musings – 20

The church is still five blocks away.
Garry dragged his feet,
feeling heavy his left shoulder
as if someone is sitting there.
The whisperings continued…
he wished he was dumb,
dumb for ever.
Pauli coming in the opposite direction
queried “Why your right hand is hanging
like wilted lettuce? ” He is laughing.
Again he felt he was dumb.
Shaking his head looked at the far away church.
“Did anyone walk on water after Jesus?”
he wondered.
“None has faith in faith!” he answered to himself.

He heard the whispers again.
“They lied to you. Sinners are never spared!”
The Church road is almost empty
and looking like a dead snake.
At the kerb he saw a man…not very tall,
not short too,
wearing some kind of gothic garments
smiling without opening his mouth.
His protruding eyes have some odd twinkles…
may call them flames coming from burning flesh.
He is waving his hands to come near.
Garry is confused…”Who’s he?
Why not…he won’t bite me!”
… approached.
He said in low voice “There is no heaven!”
He heard that voice before, but much lower than this.
When that man opened his mouth
(just a little) he noticed
two gleaming teeth like fangs.
“Do you come with me?”
he is asking. Garry felt his head reeling,
eyes blurr. Felt like vomiting at the roadside.
That man is still talking something…
Garry raised with difficulty his hanging head
and looked behind that man..
…a wagging long and curved scaly tail.
