- BJP hits opposition with tribal card
Delhi: Hours after Yeshwanth Sinha’s name was announced as Joint nominee by Opposition parties as their Presidential candidate, Saffron party came up with Draupadi Murmu as NDA candidate. Earlier BJP Parliamentary Board in the presence of Prime Minister Modi held meeting on the party’s candidate for Presidential candidate and Nadda officially announced Murmu’s name briefing media. He said that party is in touch with other parties of NDA and with UPA also.
Murmu was former Jarkhand Governor and Odisha BJP leader who perfectly fits the bill as she is an able administrator which was proven during her tenure as Governor of Jharkhand and mainly she is from tribal community (Santhal). She is the first governor to complete five years term as Jharkhand Governor which proves that she is an able administrator. She served Rairangapur as MLA twice and handled various Ministries like Transport and Commerce during BJP and BJD led Government in Odisha.
She will get support from Naveen Patnaik’s BJD as she shares cordial relationship with everyone. She is also likely to get support from Sibu Soren of JMM too and her selection as the candidate will impact tribal vote share in 2024 General elections and also boosts BJP’s prospects in her own state, Odisha, say political experts.
Draupadi Murmu was born on 20 June 1958 and its pure coincidence her name was announced as a gift in the same month by BJP. She will be first tribal President and second female if she is elected.
Presidential Polls will be held on July 18th and result will be declared on July 21st.
