Indian men hockey team loses to Brazil in semi-final

  • To play Germany for Bronze on Thursday
  • Brazil player Hendrickx scores hat-trick

Tokyo: Indian men’s hockey team had a heartbreak on Tuesday morning when it lost to Brazil in the semifinal. In the other semi-final, Germany lost to Australia. India has to play against Germany for the bronze medal. This match will take place on August 5, Thursday.

Indian team took the lead in the beginning when it was 2-1 goals ahead when Harmatpreet and Mandeep score a goal each. But in the second half, it was Brazil which dominated the show. Alexander Hendrickx of Brazil had made a hat-trick. John-John Dohmen had scored one more goal in the last leg. So much so, Brazil won the match with 5-2 score. Indian boy started well and appeared to continue the good work, but they seem to have lost their focus in the last quarter and the Brazil played did the most damage during that time.

Brzil was given a good start by Loick Luypaert who scored a goal soon after the match started. India made two goals in the first quarter itself. But in the second quarter Brazil got the equalizer and went on to score three more goals before the end of the match. Though, the balance was maintained in the second and third quarter during which the score remained at 2-2, Brazil did the scoring in the last quarter where the Indians were found wanting.
