Hyderabad: Nice, an important city in France, was in news again after three people died and several injured after a man attacked them with a knife at a church. The incident took place around 9 a.m. local time and the suspect was taken into custody by security personnel.
President Macron said that the country will never bow to terrorism. This act will unite and not give into the spirit of division, he added. According to media reports, three persons were killed with one beheaded and several gun shots sounds heard by public. Bomb squads were pressed into search operations.
France alerted security system across the country beefing up security to schools and places of worship. The terrorist is believed to have been acting alone. He shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ according to Nice’s Mayor Christian Estrosi.
A teacher, Samuel Paty, was beheaded earlier this month when she showed a controversial cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad published in a magazine, as a part of a lesson on freedom of expression.
Whether the Thursday attack is linked to the controversial cartoon is still not known. This incident had happened when France was mourning the slain teacher, Samuel Paty. A week after her ghastly murder people across the country have been championing their faith in the fierce secular values. ‘Should not freedom of religion mean freedom from religion?’ question one person in anguish.
