Hyderabad: Jeevan Reddy, a popular Congress leader who was among those that were considered for appointment as TPCC president, was vociferous in his demand that late YS Raja Sekhara Reddy should be awarded ‘Bharat Ratna.’ Talking to media person on Thursday on the occasion of YSR’s birth anniversary, Jeevan Reddy said YSR loved Telangana people very much and he did a lot for them. He said Palamuru-Chevella project was renamed as Kaleswaram Project by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao but the permissions for projects in Telangana State were obtained during the YSR regime.
Jeevan Reddy said YSR deserved to be given Bharat Ratna posthumously as he was the only person among the Telugus who really loved the people and strived for their welfare. All the welfare measures initiated by YSR government were implemented universally above caste, creed and region. YSR was the only chief minister the Telugus had who showered affection on the people. “He was a popular leaders and he loved Telagnana as much as he loved Seemandhra people. He was above narrow considerations,” said Jeevan Reddy.
Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will be going to Idupulapaya to offer tributes to his father later YSR while his sister Sharmila who is launching her own party in Telangana has already visited Idupulapaya on her way to Hyderabad from Begaluru and offered prayers at her father’s samadhi. Vijayamma, YSR’s wife, is accompanying Sharmila.
People of Telagna have a special place in their heart for YSR and his family. Banking on the goodwill enjoyed by YSR among the people of Telangana, Sharmila is launching her party with the hope of becoming the chief minister in 2023 elections.
