IVI-JSW vision screenings benefit communities in Salem district

India Vision Institute, in association with JSW Foundation, has successfully completed a free eye screening camp across 15 villages in Mecheri, Salem district, Tamil Nadu.

The initiative has benefited some 2,100 underprivileged adults, with 1,120 individuals identified as having visual impairment and are being provided corrective glasses.

Reading glasses were provided on the spot, and distance vision glasses will be distributed soon.

Another 400 adults have been referred to Salem Government Hospital for comprehensive eye examinations.

Encouraged by the positive impact, the foundation is committed to extending its reach. Plans are underway to conduct vision screening for an additional 2,000 underprivileged adults, 7,000 school children and 1,000 drivers in Mecheri villages.

IVI’s CEO Vinod Daniel said, “with clearer vision, the adults in the community will become more productive at work and less prone to accidents and falls.”

“This initiative reflects our commitment to the well-being of the community, ensuring that vital eye care reaches those who need it the most,” said Bharathi Palanisamy, CSR Head – Salem, JSW Foundation.
