Vikram successfully lands on Moon

Only country to land at the south pole

4th country in Moon missions

Chandrayaan-3 was a success. The lander Vikram carried by Chandrayaan-3 has successfully landed on the surface of Moon at 6.03  pm on Wednesday. This is a giant leap for India which is the only country to send a lander to  the south pole of the Moon. The mission has overcome the gravity and the velocity of the Moon surface and landed successfully. This not a victory for India alone but the whole world, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded from South Africa where he is attending a meeting.

Lander Vikram started its climb down at 5.45 pm and  landed safely at 6.03 pm. Next moment the prime minister started speaking in Hindi and English. Then the ISRO director has introduced the scientists who were behind the success. About four years ago, Chandrayaan-2 had failed while trying to land on the Moon after entering the lunar orbit. The experiment that failed in 2008 had invented that there is water on the Moon’s surface.

Chandrayaan has entered lunar orbit 15 days ago, on August 5. It had travelled some four lakh kilometers since it was launched from Sriharikota on July 14. The US, Russia and China are the only other three countries to make it to the moon. India is the fourth.
