YS Vijyalakshmi has announced at the YRSCP plenary that she is quitting the position of honorary president as she is with her daughter Sharmila who is fighting a political battle in the neibouring Telangana State. Though she loved both the children, Sharmila being a woman needs her support most. Since she cannot be with two parties in two different States led by two children, she has decided to resign from the YSRCP.
Vijayamma, as Vijayalakshmi is called, hugged her son, sat on his side in the plenary and told the mega meeting that she has decided to quit the post. There have been rumours galore that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his sister Sharmila developed frosty relations of late. It was cited as the reason for Sharmila floating her own party in Telangana. It is rumoured that the brother and sister have property disputes and are not on good terms. Vijayamma has been with Sharmila ever since the latter founded her own party exactly one year ago. She was seen with her daughter who is on a walkathon in Telangana.
The announcement came at the end of Vijayamma’s speech on Thursday morning at the YSRCP plenary being held in Guntur. Party president and AP Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy was very much present on the dais when his mother made this announcement. He was not surprised. She criticized the release of a letter in her name with her signature which she never attested. He said some people are deliberately spreading rumours of discord between brother and sister and mother and son. The contents of the latter and signature were not her’s , she made it clear. Since Sharmila is fighting a lonely battle to realize her father’s dreams for Telangana, she had decided to be with her. “I have decided to quit YSRCP to put an end to the unnecessary controversy about differences within the family or talk about conflict of interest,” she said.
“I am confident YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will be re-elected as Chief Minister here again. I was with my son during his difficult times. Now they have good times. I feel guilty if I don’t stand with my daughter. So, hearing the voice of my conscience, I am quitting my honorary president’s post. I will continue be with my son as his mother and with the people of Andhra Pradesh as YSR’s wife,” she said.
Vijayamma said in issues of bifurcation, there will be differences between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and so between Jagan Mohan Reddy and Sharmila. So, it would not be right for her to continue with both the parties. Even before Sharmila launched her party in Telangana, Jagan Mohan Reddy opposed it. He made his advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy to denounce the idea of her party in Telangana. After it was launched, the YSRCP issued a statement that the party has nothing to do with YSRTP founded by Sharmila. Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) and AP CM Jagan Mohan Reddy have been pally although there are different versions on Sharmila launching a party in TS and criticizing KCR almost in every meeting.
