Religion for Spiritual Progress

Thinking and speaking are gifts of God given only to human beings. Ability to think made a barbarian develop into a civilized human being. Man always tried to change to make his life more comfortable. In this process he framed certain social, cultural, religious norms for his happy living. But at times things like habit, custom, religion make some people behave irrationally and obstruct their own or others’ progress.

Every religion tries to make us better beings by focusing on three aspects.                                                                                                           1. A set of norms for our safety and well being in the form of dos and don’ts. In the modern societies we call it ‘law’. This code of conduct aims at the welfare of all.                                                                                                                  2. A set of rituals or prescribed ways of prayer etc. Each one has his place of prayer and follows his way of prayer.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               3. 3. The spiritual part which describes the relation between God and man is the important aspect of religion. It is purely personal and nobody can ever interfere in it.

Change is the law of life and we have to change according to circumstances of our place and time. The scientific law ‘Survival of the Fittest’ tells us that nature eliminates those who do not or cannot change. As rational beings we should try to live happily and let others also live so. Imposing our opinions and beliefs on others takes us back to the stage of barbarians. A realization that religion is for personal spiritual progress and not for playing politics or gaining power over others makes our life heavenly.
