Arup K.Goswami takes charge as CJ of AP HC

  • He was Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court
  • J.K.Maheswari was trasferred to Sikkim
  • Resolution passed on Dec 14th and Union Government cleared on Dec 31st

Amaravati: Justice Arup Kumar Goswami took charge as CJ of AP high Court on Wednesday, Jan 6th.Earlier, he was Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court who was replaced by J.K.Maheswari. It may be noted that J.K.Maheswari’s  transfer was recommended by the Supreme Court collegiums. Earlier, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Chief Minister of  AP, wrote a letter to the chief justice of India complaining against Justice Maheswari and others.  

Goswami had graduated from Cotton College of Guwahati in 1981 and did his  LLB in a government college in 1985 at Guwahati. He worked as Advocate in Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura and was appointed as Standing Counsel of Guwahati High Court in 2004. Later in 2011, he was appointed as Judge for Guwhati High Court. In 2019 October, he took oath as Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court.
