Vijayendra Prasad, Ilaiyaraaja nominated to RS

  • PT Usha,Veerendra Heggade also go to House of Elders
  • Modi congratulates all the four
  • Vijayendra Prasad is more than SS Rajamouli’s father

K. V. Vijayendra Prasad, the story writer of Bahubali and many other movies and father of Rajamouli, has been nominated to Rajya Sabha. According to a post by  Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself, “Prasad has been associated with the creative world for decades. His works showcase India’s glorious culture and have made a mark globally.” Modi has congratulated Prasad.

Along with Prasad, ace runner PT Usha, music maestro Ilaiyaraaja, Veerendra Heggade have also been nominated to the House of Elders.

Koduri Viswa Vijayendra Prasad has been a screenwriter and a director well known in Tollywood. He has written stories for a number of Telugu and Hindi movies. He won Filmfare award for his story of the Hindi film Bajaranagi Bhaijaan. His stories champion national integration and cultural unity. He wrote stories for most of the films directed by his son SS Rajamouli. His films like Bahubali and RRR have given pride of place for our culture and traditions.

Ilaiyaraaja, the top music director of South India, is an accomplished person in the world of music. He has composed over 8,500 songs for over 1500 films in various languages. He performed in 20,000 concerts in his career spanning over five decades. He was given five national awards-three for best music direction and two for best background music. He was awarded Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award in the country, in 2010.

Ilaiyaraaja is a dalit who faced a lot of discrimination but scripted India’s music history. He started his musical journey at 14 years of age and went on to become music maestro.

Pilavullakandi Thekkeraparambil Usha is a field and track athlete who made India proud. She was born in Kozikode in Kerala in 1964 and has been part of Indian athletics since 1979. She is called queen of Indian  track and field.

The fourth person to be nominated to RS is Veerendra Heggade, a philanthropist for over five decades and a dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala temple in Karnataka. He succeeded to the post at the age of 19 years. He is the 21st successor in the line of dharmadhikaris. He was born in 1948.
