Indu Jain, Times Group Chairperson, no more

  • Passed away at the age of 84

New Delhi: Chairperson of Bennett, Coleman & Co.Ltd(BCCL) and Media owner Indu Jain had her last breath on Thursday night at 9.30 pm in a private hospital here. Indu Jain was born in a Sahu Jain family and was married to Ashok Kumar Jain (late), former Chairman of Times Group. Ashok Jain passed away in 1999, in the US,  due to heart ailments, but Indu Jain, a spiritualist founded the Times Foundation in 2000 with sustainable development as one of its key goals.

She was also an advocate of world peace. She addressed the UN at the Millennium World Peace Summit of Religious and Spiritual Leaders. She was also founder of FICCI Ladies Organisation. She also served as Chairperson of Bharatiya Jnanpith Trust, a literary and research foundation presenting India’s highest literary awards for work in Indian languages.

Institute of Company Secretaries of India awarded Life Time Achievement award to her in 2019 for translating excellence in corporate governance into realty. Her elder son, Samir Jain is vice chairman of BCCL, which is India’s largest and diversified media company across publishing, Television, Internet, Radio and Outdoor. It is Samir Jain who developed the group into a leading publishing house. Her second son, Vineet Jain is Managing Director at BCCL. Indu Jain died due to complications arising out of COVID-19 infection.
