Huzuraba poll on Oct. 30

  • Bypolls for 3 LS, 30 Assembly seats
  • Result on Nov. 2

The election commission of India on Tuesday announced the schedule of by-electons to three Lok Sabha and 30 Assembly seats. This includes the highly contentious by-election to Huzurabad constituency in Karimnagar district where former minister Etala Rajender is the BJP candidate. The polling  will take place on October 30 and the counting of votes will be taken up on November 2, results coming out on the same day. Nominations would start from October 8.

The Assembly seats that will go for bypoll are in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Nagaland (one each) and two each in Bihar, Karnataka and Rajasthan and three each Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Meghalaya, four in West Bengal and five from Assam. Dadar Nagar Haveli, Khandwa and Mandi Lok Sabha constituencies also will have polling on October 30. Badvel is the seat in Andhra Pradesh that is going to have by-election. It is a SC reserved seat in Kadapa district.

The Election Commission had reiterated its orders regarding Covid-19 safety regulations. The election meetings shall not have more than 30 percent of the capacity of the auditoriums and 200 persons maximum in open door meetings.

The bypoll in Huzurabad has become keenly contested and prestigious for the BJP and the ruling TRS. BJP has fielded former TRS minister Etala Rajender and TRS had put up a student leader Gelli Srinivasa Yadav. The Congress party is yet to decide its candidate.
