YSR Congress To Move Adjournment Motion For Special Category Status
Amaravati: The Opposition YSR Congress has served an Adjournment Motion in the AP Assembly on Thursday seeking a resolution for the Special Category Status to the State. YSR Congress legislators B Rajendranath Reddy, K Srinivasulu, P Rananna Dora and C Ramachandra Reddy have served the Adjournment Motion notice to the Assembly secretary on Thursday.
The legislators said that the resolution on the Special Category Status was necessary and relevant particularly in the light of the Central government announcing special package to the State and giving Cabinet approval. The YSR Congress is all set to stall the proceedings of the day in the Assembly after the notice is submitted to Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao.
The YSR Congress legislators, in a private talk, recalled that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu himself had moved the resolution in the State Assembly twice in the past seeking Special Category Status to the State. They further recalled that in both the occasions, Chandrababu Naidu had given minimum of three hours talk in the Assembly on the need for Special Category Status. The YSR Congress legislators want to hit Chandrababu Naidu and his ruling party with the same speeches and his U turn on it in the present Session where he had moved a thanks giving motion to the Central Cabinet for approving the Special Package to the State.
The Chief Minister while moving a resolution in the Assembly on September 1, 2015 said “This House unanimously resolves to request Government of India to accord Special Category Status to the State of Andhra Pradesh and further resolves to recommend Government of India to implement all the provisions contained in AP State Reorganisation Act 2014 and assurances made by the then Prime Minister of India on the floor of Rajya Sabha on 20th February 2014.” He had even went on to quote the report of the 14th Finance Commission that had said that Andhra Pradesh would have revenue deficit even in the 2019-20 and emphasised the need to accord Special Category Status.
The Opposition YSR Congress is now getting ready to hit Chandrababu Naidu with his own statements on the issue generating greater heat a head of the summer in the Assembly. However, it is to be seen whether the Speaker admits this motion or not. Whether or not the Speaker admits the adjournment motion, the House is set to witness heated exchanges between the Opposition and the Treasury benches.
