Yogi Adityanath, BJP CM Of UP, Maurya, Sharma Deputies
Lucknow: BJP has thrown up a surprise by selecting a controversial saffron leader Yogi Adityanath as new chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. Kesav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma will be the deputy chief ministers. Yogi and other ministers will take oath of office at 2:15 pm on Sunday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah will attend the ceremony. Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu met the newly elected BJP MLAs at Lok Bhavan on Saturday evening. He and another Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav have confabulated with the new law makers. Naidu announced the names after having a word with Amit Shah in phone.
Yogi Adityanath,44, is a Lok Sabha Member from Gorakhpur for the fifth time since 1998. He was born in Garhwal division on 5 June 1972. He is the adopted son of Mahant Avaidyanathji Maharaj.
The yogi has courted any number of controversies. He was allegedly involved in converting people of other religions to Hinduism. Adityanath was also involved in “Love Jihad”. He led a purification drive by converting Christians into Hinduism in 2005.
In Etah, a town in UP, he got about 1800 Christians to convert into Hinduism. In 2015, Yogi Adityanath asked all those who opposed Surya Namaskar, part of yoga, to leave India. He compared Bollywood super star Shah Rukh Khan to Pakistani terrorist Hafiz Saeed. He said majority people of India made Shah Rukh Khan a star and if they boycott his films he will have to roam in Mumbai streets.
Adityanath is unmarried. He is very popular among the people of Gorakhpur.
