Wi-Fi at Secunderabad Railway station

HYDERABAD: Union Minister for Labour & Employment Bandaru Dattatreya and Telangana IT Minister K.Taraka Rama Rao launched free Wi-Fi services at Secunderabad Railway Station on Tuesday. A new ticket booking counter was also opened on the occasion.

Talking to media along with Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya and SCR General Manager Srivastava after launching the Wi-Fi services, Rao said entire Hyderabad would get Wi-Fi services by December end.

He said the services would prove handy for netizens. For first time in SCR zone with 13 lakh staff, the Wi-Fi services provide free Internet services for at least half-an-hour, he said.

Efforts are being made to connect each and every locality in the twin cities with Wi-Fi, he said, adding that there is a paradigm shift to mobile governance from e-governance across the nation. Out of 75 crores of mobile users in the country, 32-lakh people with smart phones are using Internet services. And Hyderabad adorning the Wi-Fi facility would help them with the free Internet services for some time, Rao stated.

Dattatreya expressed pleasure at the introduction of Wi-Fi facility in the railway station premises. This new technology, he said, will be of immense help for the net users in the twin cities. The state government is making all efforts for completing the task by year-end, he said.

To avail this facility at the Secunderabad railway station, the citizens should be close to the foot-over bridge and through their mobile phones can connect to the WIFI called railway MTS.

Not only this, the officials are even planning to avail the WIFI facilities in various express and premier trains that travel through the Secunderabad railway station. Also, the officials are planning to introduce WIFI in more cities in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and for this, a Gigabyte ethernet switch costing around 50-lakh rupees would be arranged.

By the end of this financial year, the South Central Railway zone will introduce WIFI services in 74 other railway stations. (NSS)
