Why Jagan Has Been An Early Bird Always?
Amaravati: YSR Congress president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has been an early bird in politics, particularly in dealing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Jagan Mohan Reddy visited Modi in May 2014 even before Modi assumed charge and extended unconditional support to NDA. Political observers thought Jagan volunteered to support To Modi. BJP had won the elections with absolute majority and It did not require even the NDA partners’ support either to form the government. But, Jagan offered his party’s support, which had just 9 MPs in Lok Sabha.
Three years later, Jagan Mohan Reddy visited Modi again on May 10 and extended support to NDA for its Presidential Election. This time the appointment which Jagan sought during his last visit to Delhi was granted on May 10th. Modi does not require Jagan’s support in the Presidential elections. It is almost clear now that the NDA’s candidate, whoever it may be, will win the Presidential elections hands down. But, Jagan Mohan Reddy had volunteered his party’s support and thus ignited big debate.
One wonders why Jagan Mohan Reddy tries to be an unsolicited friend of Modi right from the beginning. Though Jagan Mohan Reddy mention Special Status in his letter submitted to Modi he has put it as the last item. It was not a precondition for his support. The leader who had threatened to quit Lok Sabha on the issue is now changed and says that resignation is not an issue and it can wait for another six months. This shift in his political agenda gives scope for his critics to target him. This shift also distances him from the Minorities vote bank as the Christians and the Muslims are not comfortable with the Modi-Sangh Pariwar politics in the country.
The Left parties have already moved away from the YSR Congress now, particularly after Jagan Mohan Reddy’s meeting the Prime Minister. It is to be seen if the Minorities too dump Jagan giving an edge to Chandrababu Naidu or look towards Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena.
The change in Jagan’s attitude may be a result of pragmatism in politics. He himself has explained that in politics diplomacy, tactics and fighting prowess. But offering support to NDA even before the NDA partner Shiv Sena did has given a handle to the TDP leaders.
