What Is Behind Pak Denial?
- 38 terrorists killed
- No Indian Casualties
New Delhi: The Pakistani army had accused India of ‘ fabricating the truth’ after India revealed that it had carried out surgical strike. Indian army spokesman said five terror launch pads were destroyed in the attack.
The strikes were launched last night based on ‘very specific and credible information that some terrorist units had positioned themselves to infiltrate’ Lt General Ranbir Singh, Director General of Military Operations told reporters on Thursday morning. But the Pakistani army press release said that two Pakistani soldiers were killed in an unprovoked firing by India across the LoC. ‘This quest by Indian establishment to create media hype by rebranding cross- border fire as surgical strikes is fabrication of truth’, the Pak army said in a statement.
Former senior diplomat Vivek Katju interpreted Pakistan stance as an attempt to defuse the situation. He expressed his view that more retaliation from Pakistan can be expected.
While Prime Minister Narendra Modi tried for peace for two years, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had chosen to tow the army line. The Pak denial may also be construed that it does not want to escalate the situation in the ground. Army said Indian troops went three kilometres inside Pakistan and killed 38 terrorists. By the surgical strike India has sent a clear signal to the terrorists in Pakistan.
Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the attack and warned that their desire for peace should not be viewed as weakness.
The analysts insist that it was a very well planned and executed operation. The villagers along the borders in Punjab and Gujarat were evacuated to safer places. The fact that there were no Indian casualties goes to show that the operation was truly surgical.
