Weak support structure blamed for Nanakramguda building collapse
Hyderabad: An under construction five-storied building, which collapsed in Nanakramguda last month was due to weak supporting structure in the form of inadequate design and excessive load on columns and foundation causing structural instability.
The building owned by Satyanarayana Singh, which collapsed on the night of December 8 had claimed 11 lives and injured several others. The investigation taken up to study the reason for collapse of building by GHMC along with JNTU engineers further revealed that the owner constructed Stilt for parking + 5 upper floors for residential purpose and pent house without obtaining any building permission from GHMC and without maintaining required setbacks.
The cause of collapse of the building is improper and inadequate structural designs. It was found that the builder have originally obtained permission for G+3. But he constructed a residential building consisting of stilt+5 upper floors and a pent house violating norms. -NSS
