Warm welcome to Sindhu, Gopi
Hyderabad: People in great number throng at Shamshabad airport to welcome Olympic Silver medal winner P.V. Sindhu and her famous couch P. Gopichand at 9:00 AM on Monday. They got into an open vehicle to participate in the victory march from Shamshabad to Rajendra nagar en-route to Gachibowli. Massive celebrations are under way at Gopichand Academy where Sindu and Gopichand would be felicitated.
Soon after the function Gopichand and Sindhu are scheduled to meet Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who earlier announced an award of Rs. 5 cr to Sindhu. Mr. Nara Chandrababu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, had also announced a cash award of Rs. 3 cr. People standing en-route have showered flowers and garlands on Sindhu and Gopichand. The kind of celebrations that are taking place in Hyderabad can be compared to the historic welcome event to TRS chief KCR when he arrived in Hyderabad from Delhi after the formation of separate state of Telangana became a reality.
Telangana Chief Minister Kalvakuntla Chandrasekhara Rao (KCR) felicitated Olympian Silver medalist PV Sindhu at his office on Monday. Both P Gopichand, the mentor who coached Sindhu, was with her. Earlier, KCR’s son and IT Minister K Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) presented a momento to Sindhu at Pullela Gopichand Academy at Gachhibowli. Sindhu and Gopichand arrived at the Academy at the head of a long victory rally that took several hours to reach Gachhibowli from Samshabad airport.
Sindhu and Gopichand called on Governor ESL Narasimhan later in the evening. Sweets were distributed at Raj Bhavan to celebrate the memorable victory at Rio.
Sindhu and Gopichand are travelling to Vijayawada tomorrow morning. They will be taken to PWD Grounds in a colourful procession from Gannavaram airport where they will land around 8.30 am. AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will honour them in a fitting manner.
