Vizag to become knowledge hub

Hyderabad, January 17: Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday expressed confidence that Visakhapatnam would soon emerge as one of the “knowledge hub” in the country.
He was speaking at a function at Gambheeram Village near Visakhapatnam where the foundation stone for setting up the central government sponsored Indian Institute of Management (IIM) was laid by Union HRD Minister Smirti Irani. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju were also present.
The IIM at Vizag is one of the eleven centrally sponsored institutions in the country. It is being set up on a 300-acre land provided by the A.P. Government. Venkaiah Naidu said it would mark the beginning of a great future in the academic field of Andhra Pradesh which has the potential for great academic excellence. It also brought to fore the commitment of Modi Government to fulfill its promise of ensuring development in the field of education. Many more centrally sponsored institutions would also soon come to the state, he assured.
After laying the foundation stone Smriti Iran said that the admissions for the IIM would commence from the next academic year. She also showered encomiums on Chandrababu Naidu for his keen interest and commitment in encouraging the growth of IT institutions and industries. Stating that it was the endeavor of the central government to ensure education for all, she said that a new education policy would soon be announced and implemented at the earliest.
Speaking on the occasion Chandrababu Naidu vowed to make Visakhapatnam not only a knowledge hub also a smart city on part with others the world over. He pointed out that youth the in the state were very knowledge conscious and also excelling themselves in the field of IT. As a matter of fact many IT professionals in various parts of the globe were from the state, he pointed out. (NSS)
