Virat Kohli Wins 1st ODI Against England In Style
Pune: Virat Kohli has played a captain’s innings in the wonderful win against England in the first ODI here on Sunday. India won in style with Hardik Pandya lifting the ball for a six. India won by three wickets. Thanks mainly to the fantastic partnership between Kohli and Jadhav.
After losing four wickets cheaply, Virat and Kedar Jadhav have steadied the innings. They kept the score board moving at a rapid pace. Virat was at his best in hitting the ball with at will. Virat Kohli was out for 122 when he lifted a ball for a four and ended up giving a catch. He along with Jadhav steered India clear of the woods by hitting one ton each. Kohli pulled a short ball from Stokes getting the top edge. The moment the ball left the bat Kohli knew that he made a blunder. Kohli has hoisted his 27th ODI hundred. Hardik Pandya joined Jadhav. But soon after that Kedar Jadhav was out for 120. It was his second ODI hundred.
Earlier openers Lokesh Rahul and Shikha Dhawan were sent to the pavilion for 8 and 1. Yuvaraj Singh who made a comeback scored 15 runs before getting out. Former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni made only 6 runs. Ravindra Jadeja came in place of Kedar Jadhav. Of the England bowlers Jake Ball took three wickets while David Wiley and Ben Stokes taking two wickets each.
Half-centuries from Jason Roy and Ben Stokes who made 78 and 62 respectively helped England to pile up a huge score of 350 runs for seven in 50 overs.
This is the highest score by England against India. Among the Indian bowlers Hardin Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets each. Ravindra Jadhav was out for 13 trying to hit a ball for a six. Ravi Chandra Aswin has joined Pandya when the latter was in 17. Pandya went on to play a very clever game scoring fours in a row.
