Vijaya Shanti Calls OPS Evil, Supports EP
Chennai: Popular South Indian actor of yesteryears, Vijaya Shanti, has expressed her support to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswamy and AIADM General Secretary VK Sasikala Natarajan. She called O Pannerselvam (OPS) as a person who is under the influence of evil forces. Vijaya Shanti who acted in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi films has been in politics for a decade. She visited Chennai after the death of J Jayalalithaa and met Sasikala to declare solidarity with her.
Vijaya Shanti was elected to Lok Sabha from Medak on TRS ticket. She was an important leader in the party for some time. She had some differences with TRS supremo K Chandrasekhara Rao (KCR) and left the party to join the Congress. She has not been active since the 2014 elections. She was also with the BJP for some time. She has been maintaining cordial relationship with J Jayalalithaa when she was chief minister. Though she lived in Chennai for many years working for films, she had shifted to Hyderabad and claimed to have born in Warangal district and hence a bona fide Telanganite.
Vijaya Shanti could not harness her fan following since she lacked the network and KCR did not give her any specific role to improve her image. She was close to TS Minister for Major Irrigation T Harish Rao but could not adjust in the party as she lost the confidence of the supreme leader. She has plans to launch a new party or to help someone to launch a party. But she is yet to firm up her thoughts.
Her frequent visits to Chennai and comments on the political developments in Tamil Nadu show that her political ambition is intact. But her opinions are not in sync with the popular sentiment in the State. There was an overwhelming supporting pouring in for OPS in social media during the 11-day drama before Sasikala went to Bengaluru jail and E Palaniswamy became chief minister. The rest of the film celebrities like Kamal Haasan have been with OPS. Kamal Haasan has described the chief minister and his cabinet colleagues as a bunch of criminals.
DMK ON THE OFFENSIVE
DMK is trying to take advantage of the problems in the ruling party. The working president of the party MK Stalin is going to sit on fast on February 22 at Trichi. The DMK MLAs are fasting for justice. Stalin met Governor C Vidyasagara Rao and appealed to recommend president’s rule. But the way the DMK MLAs disturbed the House and insulted the Speaker at the time of trust vote did not go well with the people. The unruly scenes in the Assembly were a blot on democracy and the opposition party has to take the entire blame for it. Tamil Nadu Assembly secretary was asked by Governor Rao to file a report on the events on that day on which the ruckus took place.
