Vamsadhara Architect Patnaik Dies

The architect of Vamsadhara project Patnaik (93) died on Thursday night at his residence in Srikakulam.

Visakhapatnam: The architect of Vamsadhara reservoir, the lifeline of Srikakulam district CRM Patnaik (93) breathed his last @10:15 pm at his residence in Srikakulam  on Thursday after a brief illness. He is survived by two sons and eight daughters. Born on 2 October 1924, the nonagenarian, as an SE in irrigation department, designed Vamsadhara project. The then Chief Minister Kasu Brahmananda Reddy laid foundation stone in 1969.

People of Srikakulam call him Sir Arthur Cotton in reverence for his services. An engineer from Gindi Engineering College of Chennai, he worked initially in Machkhand hydro powe project. After formation of Andhra Pradesh in 1953, he was assigned duties in irrigation department. He envisaged linking of Vamsadhara and Nagavali Rivers which is being now under active consideration of the State government.
