Vaikuntha Ekadasi celebrated with devotion

Hyderabad:AVaikuntha EkadasiAwas celebrated at all major temples in the twoATelugu States on Sunday, with religious fervor and devotion. The pilgrim centers witnessed huge rush of devotees who offered special poojas to the deities at the temples.

Special arrangements were made at the temples inAAAHyderabad, Dharmapuri,AWarangal, Khammam, Nizamabad, Yadadri, Tirumala, Srisailam, and Mangalagiri for the pilgrims to have darshan of the presiding deities.

Vaikuntha Ekadasi is celebrated in Vaishnava temples all overASouth India.AIt is one of the major festivals celebrated with grandeur amidst the holy chants of theALordsa names.

According to mythology,A AaAVaishnava named Sri Nammalvar was an ardent devotee of the Supreme Lord Vishnu. When he left his body on this Earth, Lord Vishnu himself personally stoodAat the entrance of Vaikuntham, to receive his devotee.ATo commemorate thisAevent, Vaikuntha Ekadasi is celebrated in the temples every year on that day.

Another legend behind this festivalAis that every morning,AAdevatas visit Vaikuntham to greet LordAVishnu. One day of demigods is equivalent to one earthly year. Hence every year on this day, door to Vaikuntham is open and Hindu devotees firmly believe that those who pass through the Vaikuntha Dwara on this day would go straight to Vaikuntham after death. -NSS
