Union Minister Naqvi found guilty

  • BJP workers barged into police station

New Delhi, January 14:  Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi  was convicted by a court in Rampur in UP for an offence during his election campaign in 2009. The minister was found guilty 143 (unlawful assembly), 341 (wrongful restraint), 340 (wrongful confinement) of IPC, Criminal Law Amendment Act and section 144 of CrPC. 18 others also have been found guilty. According to news channel, Naqvi was sentenced for one year imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 4,000.

The case filed by a member of Samajwadi Party relates to a demonstration by BJP workers led by Naqvi at Patwai area of Rampur parliamentary constituency at the time of campaigning  in 2009 elections. The demonstrators allegedly barged into a police station. Naqvi was granted bail in the evening.
