Uber drives new initiative to bring ideas to life
- UberPITCH for startup dreamers
Hyderabad: Uber, the smartphone app that connects riders with drivers at the push of a button, drove the dreams of entrepreneurs of getting mentored by leading investors, mentors and venture capitalists, through its initiative UberPITCH on Saturday.
“We are excited to host uberPITCH in Hyderabad, and build on the established startup community here by giving a chance to entrepreneurs to bring their ideas to life. Having received an overwhelming response of over 5000 entries across India, many of which were from Hyderabad, we are looking forward to take this programme to the next level and give the shortlisted startups an opportunity to get guidance and mentorship from the skilled mentors,” said Deepak Reddy, General Manager, Uber – Telangana & Andhra Pradesh.
Following the launch announcement of uberPITCH in October 2016, over 5000 ideas, many of which were from across Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities of India, were submitted in order to get an opportunity for a tête-à-tête with expert investors. Out of the talented bunch, 104 shortlisted startups made it to the next round of mentorship with VCs, of which five startups/entrepreneurs were from Hyderabad and the region. The session in Hyderabad aimed to guide budding entrepreneurs to become leaders by helping them measure where they are today, understand and set realistic goals, and identify the barriers to their success. Sanjay Enisetty of 50k Ventures was present at the event as the mentor.
An initiative housed under UberEXCHANGE, UberPITCH enables anyone who aspires to be the next big sensation in the startup space. Beginning as a mentorship programme, Uber opens grounds for entrepreneurs to pitch their ideas to top investors, while having them compete with other selected startups. Furthermore, three UberPITCH finalists will feature among the top 10 startups that will be flown to the Silicon Valley to meet the leadership team at Uber as well as exchange notes with big-ticket investors.
