Two Women Maoists killed In Alleged Encounter At AOB

Although the death of both the women Maoists is confirmed, their identity is not known.

Visakhapatnam: Two women Maoists were allegedly killed in the encounter that took place in Andhra- Odisha Border area.  According to sources,  security forces after receiving reliable information that Maoists met at Rayagada district in Odisha reached there. Two women Maoists died in the encounter that occurred between the SOT forces, CRPF and Maoists.

Sources said that another Adivasi was injured in the incident that took place around 9 am on Wednesday.  Although the death of both the women Maoists is confirmed, their identity is not known.

The Police said that they seized several weapons including an AK-47  from the spot. Generally, these weapons are said to be used by central committee members or Special zone committee members.  The police are suspecting if any top Maoist leader has attended the meeting and escaped.  As the summer has set in, the AOB security forces intensified their combing operations.

Meanwhile,  the Maoists, not lagging behind intensified their recruitments. Since there would be water scarcity in the area, it is expected that Maoists would go into the villages. The security forces are strategising to eliminate them when they try to enter villages. In this context, AOB might see more blood and emotions.

24 Maoists killed in encounter

 • AP-Odisha police joint operation a big success

Twenty-four Maoists were reported to have been killed in a joint operation conducted by Odisha and Andhra Pradesh police early Monday morning in a jungle on the borders of the two states.

The encounter took place near Jantri in Malkangiri district of Odisha. Confirming the death toll – 17 males and seven females – Malkangiri SP told The Hindu, ““As the place where the encounter took place is too remote and is reachable by road from through Andhra Pradesh, the bodies are to be airlifted by helicopter to Malkangiri.”

It is suspected that some injured Naxalites might have escaped into the dense bush. With combing operations continuing, police see a possibility of recovering more bodies.

Based on intelligence info, AP Greyhounds and special police of Odisha had formed a joint team to search for the suspected Naxalite hideout. In the wee hours of Monday, the special forces struck a Maoist training camp. In the ensuing exchange of fire, 24 Maoists were reported to have been killed. A few among the dead could be some top leaders of the banned CPI (Maoist) party.  Their names could be known only after ascertaining their identities.

Police sources said two constables belonging to Greyhounds were injured and they were airlifted to Visakhapatnam for medical treatment. Four AK-47 rifles, three self-loading rifles and some other weapons were seized from the encounter site.

It is believed that more than 100 Maoists operating in the Odisha-AP border areas had assembled at the site to hold a joint meeting with some top leaders.

This is the second major encounter and the biggest in Malkangiri district, the first one being in September 2013 when 13 Maoists were killed.  The Monday operation is considered a major victory for AP-Odisha police in their anti-Naxalite operations.

Malkangiri district is predominantly a tribal area and is a key transit zone for Maoists prowling Chhattisgarh, Odisha and AP forests. In recent months,  Odisha’s efforts have resulted in hundreds of Maoists and their supporters surrendering to the police. While the Maoist support base has been shrinking in Odisha, some hardcore cadres are said to have shifted their activities to Chhattisgarh. It is not yet known whether the Monday encounter would have a considerable impact on their operations.

Senior leaders among the dead

According to latest reports, senior Maoists Kiran, Sudhakar and Ramakrishna’s son Munna were among those dead while another senior leader Ganesh escaped from the police ambush.

The militant group’s top leader Ramakrishna (RK) was also at the encounter site as they were holding a plenary. The agenda of the meeting was to strengthen the party in the entire South India and several leaders from Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Kerala and Chhattisgarh were taking part in the plenary.

The police took the help of former Maoists to identify the dead leaders. One of the two constables of the Greyhounds team who were injured in the encounter and taken to King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as senior commando Abubakar of Gajuwaka. The bodies of Maoists were shifted to Malkangiri district by a helicopter.

High Court orders bodies to be preserved

Meanwhile, the High Court which sat down to look into the petition regarding Monday’s encounter posted the next hearing for Wednesday and ordered that the bodies of those slain in the encounter be preserved till then. The Advocate General representing the Andhra Pradesh Government had stated that they do not yet have a confirmation about how many people died in the encounter as the encounter is still under way.

The petitioner Chiluka Chandrasekhar requested the court to have the bodies moved to the KGH in Visakhapatnam. He alleged that the Grey Hounds had gone 10km beyond their perimeter to kill the Maoists, who were only gathered there for a meeting. Instead of arresting them, they killed them, showing it as an encounter, the petitioner alleged. The Human Rights organization petitioned the court to register a case under Section 302 of the IPC against the police officers involved.

Varavara Rao calls it cold-blooded murders

In a related development, revolutionary writer P Varavara Rao called it a fake encounter and demanded a probe. “Cops surrounded a Maoist meeting and shot them in cold blood and termed it as an encounter. After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the influence of Maoists has come down and they have not launched any major attacks. So what was the reason for such drastic action against them, he questioned. “This encounter case should be registered as a murder case and a sitting High Court judge should conduct the probe,” V V Rao demanded. Most of the slain Maoists hailed from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, he added.

ISI Militant gang killed in encounter

HYDERABAD: Five terrorists having ISI connections and working for SIMI were gunned down in an encounter today on the Warangal national highway near Alir-Jangaon. They tried to snatch weapons and escape from the police custody.

The encounter took place when Viqaruddin and his four militant gang members were being brought from Warangal District Jail to Nampally Court. As the vehicle entered the Nalgonda district border, the gang members tried to snatch the rifles from the escort policemen and escape when the vehicle was stopped to enable the gang to answer the calls of nature.

There were 18 S1 police security personnel when the five-member gang was being transported. The militants became desperately aggressive in their bid to escape with the weapons and scuffled with the escort policemen. The security personnel became alert and opened fire killing all the five militants.

The others killed, Apart from Viqaruddin, were Syed Amjad, Mohammed Aneef, Mohammed Zakeer and Aijar Khan.

According to the police Viqarudin Ahmed, alias Viqar, was a terror operative and founder of the local militant outfit Tehreek-Ghalba-e-Islam (TGI), which was responsible for various shooting incidents and killing of police personnel in the city. The four others were members of this outfit.

After being elusive since December 2008 following the killing of two security personnel, Viqaruddin and his associates were arrested in July 2010 and lodged in Chanchalguda Jail. When the gang members created a ruckus in the jail by threatening the warden, they were shifted to Warangal Central Jail. The trial of the gang was going on in Nampally Court. In connection with the trail in the court, the gang was being brought to the city.

Reacting sharply to the death of his son, Viqaruddin’s father Mohammed Ahmed alleged that it was a fake encounter, during the last stage of the trial in the court. Accusing the police of killing his son in a fake encounter, he said he would go to High Court.

Subsequent to the killing of Viqaruddin and his gang, the police have made elaborate security arrangements in the city, especially in the sensitive old city localities to avert any untoward incident. (NSS)

Talking to press persons after consoling the ailing policemen at the hospital, Narsimha Reddy said that the two assailants killed in encounter are those involved in Suryapet firing incident. 2 ultras, cop killed in encounter

HYDERABAD: Two suspected terrorists, having links with Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), who were involved in a shoot-out at Suryapet Hi-Tech Bus Station on Thursday, were killed in an encounter with the police while they were trying to escape on a motor-cycle in Nalgonda district on Saturday morning.
• SI critically wounded in Suryapet incident
 • DGP visits the spot, says it is inter-state gang from UP
One police constable Nagarju was killed and a Circle Inspector and a Sub-Inspector sustained bullet injuries in today’s incident. The condition of Sub-Inspector Siddaiah is stated to be critical with four bullet injuries, including one pierced into his brain. The condition of Circle Inspector Bala Gangi Reddy is stable. Both were brought to Kamineni Hospital at LB Nagar and undergoing treatment.

It may be mentioned here that suspected inter-State armed gangsters fired at a police party during routine checking at the bus station in Suryapet on Thursday in which police constable M. Lingaiah and a Home Guard K. Mahesh were killed. One Circle Inspector Moghaliah was also injured in the shoot-out. The fleeing assailants also shot at a civilian proceeding in a car along with his family on the highway a few km away.

After the incident at the bus station, police formed special teams and  launched a vigorous manhunt in the entire Nalgonda district and also in the neighbouring districts. Police were confident that the escaped assailants would not have left Nalgonda district because of the fact they had snatched away a Sten Carbine  weapon from the police and it would not be possible for them to disappear for long and remain undetected carrying the weapon.

Under the supervision of senior officers like the DIG, SP and DGP Anurag Sharma, police spread a dragnet in Nalgonda district and began combing operations to nab the culprits. During the search in the district, police received information that some suspicious characters were taking shelter in a Dargah at Arvapally near Janakipuram. But before the police could reach the place on Friday night, the suspects seeing the police party escaped on a motor-cycle.

The police stepped up manhunt for the fleeing suspects. On Saturday morning, the fleeing suspects were spotted by a police party at a place close to Janakipuram of Mothkur Mandal. The suspects tried to make their escape good by opening fire sparking the encounter. The fleeing suspects opened fire at the police chasing them in a vehicle killing the constable and injuring the Sub-Inspector. In the exchange of fire between the suspects and the police, the Circle Inspector was injured and the two suspects were also killed and their bodies were recovered in the nearby bushes.

Police reinforcements rushed to the encounter stop and found bodies of the two assailants, who were later identified as Aslam and Jakeer, who were involved in the shoot-out at Suryapet bus station on Thursday night.  The police also recovered a stolen Sten Carbine and two pistols. Soon after the information reached the State headquarters, DGP Anurag Sharma and other senior officials rushed to the encounter spot.

While the DGP confirmed that two persons killed in today’s encounter were the same, who were involved in Thursday shoot-out at Suryapet. He also said they definitely belonged to an inter-State gang from Uttar Pradesh. However, he did not say whether the dead persons were terrorists except stating that investigations to ascertain their links with terror groups are on

However, informed sources disclosed the police have identified the two dead persons as the two among the five terrorists, who had escaped  from Khandwa Jail of UP last year. These escapees from the jail were stated to have links with SIMI outfit. It is also suspected that these five escapees from the UP jail were involved in a series of dacoities and bank robberies. As a matter of fact, the two dead persons in today’s encounter were stated to have been involved in a bank robbery in Karimnagar district and also dacoity in few other places.

Both the injured Circle Inspector and Sub-Inspector were brought to the city and admitted in Kamineni Hospital. While the condition of the CI is stated to be stable, doctors said, the SI’s position is very critical as he had received as many as four bullet injuries. One bullet was still imbedded in the brain and doctors are trying to perform an operation. The SI also received bullet injuries in the head, chest and abdomen. (NSS)
