TTV Dinakaran Gets Bail In Bribe For Symbol Case
New Delhi: AIADMK (Amma) faction leader TTV Dinakaran was granted by a Delhi Court on Thursday. It is known that he was arrested for trying to bribe an Election Commission official to get the official symbol of AIADMK for his faction.
TTV Dinakaran and his aide Mallikarjun were granted bail by Tis Hazari court on a personal bond of Rs 5 lakh each. The court directed them to surrender their passports.
The EC froze the AIADMK’s symbol after the two factions of the party staked claim to it. The Delhi Crime Branch Police arrested him in April on allegations that Dinakaran tried to bribe Election Commission official.
Meanwhile, Dinakaran’s counsel argued that there was no reason to keep him in custody, as no public servant was made an accused in the case, though he was booked on graft charges.
But the police opposed his bail saying that AIADMK leader conspired with others to undermine the sanctity of electoral process through corrupt means and practices.
The whole episode took place during the by-election for RK Nagar Assembly seat in Tamil Nadu. The by-poll has since been Dinakaran’s faction hoped to obtain the official symbol for the poll. However, it was later cancelled by the EC after irregularities were reported in the media.
