Hyderabad: Stating that Telangana State stood at second place in solar power production in the country, Minister for Power and SC Welfare G Jagdeesh Reddy said the State could occupy the first place in the next six months if the circumstances and calculations bear fruit as planned.
Replying to questions raised by Congress and TDP members Vamshichand Reddy and Sandra Venkata Veeraiah respectively in the Assembly during the Question Hour on Wednesday, the Power Minister told the House that the State was producing 1000 MW solar power. Besides, as part of stepping up solar power production, the government called for tenders, power sub-station-wise, to double the solar power output, he added.
Jagdeesh Reddy also disclosed that the government has formulated plans to provide solar power to agriculture sector and as a part of the programme, 90 pump sets were brought into operation for solar power supply in Bangaru Chelaka in Lakshmidevipally mandal and Mylavaram village in Bhadradri Kothagudem district on experimental basis.
“However, we could not provide solar power to farmers in the State so easily with the depletion of ground water. We are also making alternative arrangements for the farmers using solar power on account of failure of power grid. We have also sent proposals to the Centre for its assistance for providing 1000 MW power output for the lift irrigation”, he added. The minister also explained that his department has taken steps to electrify the SC, ST hostels with solar power and other commercial establishments. –NSS
