TRS and TDP-Congress come to blows
HYDERABAD:AMembers of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) engaged in fisticuffs with those of the Telugu Desam and Congress during the address of Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan to the joint session of the Telangana State LegislatureAon Saturday.
What was more shocking was that TDP and Cong members indulged in slogan shouting even when the national anthem was being played prior to commencement of the Governoras address. They were virtually reprimanded by the Governor and forced to maintain decency and decorum.
The TDP and the Congress, which are bitter foes, closed ranks against their common enemy, the TRS, by exchanging blows with members of the ruling party.
Trouble erupted even as Legislative Council Chairman Swamy Goud and Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudhanachary were ceremonially escorting the Governor to the podium. TDP and Congress members, holding placards, raised slogans against what they called the unconstitutional actions of the ruling party. They were protesting against the continuance ofA Talasani Srinivas Yadav and Thummala Nageshwar Rao in the KCR Cabinet. Mr. Yadav, though a TDP MLA, will be seated in the ruling party benches.
Opposition members hurl speech copies at Governor
As soon as the national anthem ended and the Governor began to read his address, the slogan shouting TDP and Congress members rushed into the well of the House. Sensing trouble, marshals in large numbers took positions and formed a human cordon around the podium to prevent the MLAs from surging forward.
Meanwhile the TRS members rushed towards the Opposition benches and tried to prevent the TDP and Congress members from moving towards the podium. This led to high drama in the well of the House and, at one stage, members from both sides even exchanged blows. The Marshals had a tough time in keeping the warring sides at bay.
Unmindful of the drama unfolding in the well, the Governor continued reading his address, while the TDP and Congress members raised raising slogans and even hurled copies of the speech in the air.
TDP members Erraballi Dayakar Rao and Revanth Reddy and Congress member Sampath climbed on their desks and hurled speech copies towards the podium. The Governor’s ADC, the Marshals and the legislature staff were seen trying to prevent the paper missiles from falling on the Governor and the Presiding Officers of the legislature.
The Governor completed his address in about 15 minutes to the thumping of desks from the Treasury Benches. As he was leaving the House, the TDP and Congress members shouting slogans of “Governor down down”, which was countered by TRS members with slogans of “Governor zindabad”. With a smile on his faces and folded hands, the Governor left the House and departed to Raj the Bhavan.
The ugly drama witnessed on the floor on the opening day amply is a pointer to the stormy days ahead in the budget session which is scheduled to continue till this month end.A(NSS)
