Dehradun: Trivendra Singh Rawat will be taking oath of office as chief minister of Uttarakhand on Saturday.
A former RSS Pracharak who is close to BJP chief Amit Shah, Trivendra will take oath at Parade Ground here. BJP has won 57 of the 70 seats in the UK Assembly. The newly elected law makers belonging to the BJP met on Friday morning and requested Amit Shah to select the new chief minister. Amit Shah has announced the name of Trivendra Singh Rawat. He will be succeeding the outgoing Congress incumbent Harish Rawat who lost in the two constituencies he contested from. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah are likely to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
Suspense continues in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh where the BJP swept the polls. BJP and its allies have won 325 out of 403 seats in UP Assembly. There was a buzz for couple of days around Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. But it does not appear likely any more. The chances of Kesav Prasad Maurya, a Most Backward Caste leader and president of the UP unit of BJP appear to be bleak after Amit Shah commented that the new chief minister will be selected by party’s UP unit president. Another probable Manoj Shah, Union Minister, has ruled himself out of the race for UP Chief Minister.
Amit Shah is meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and RSS leaders before shortlisting the names. The newly elected 312 BJP MLAs on Saturday. The swearing-in ceremony of UP CM will take place at Smriti Upvan complex near Ambedkar Memorial in Lucknow on Sunday. The name of the person who is going to take over as CM will be declared tomorrow after the meeting of BJP MLAs.
