TITA fetes newly appointed TWDC chairman

Hyderabad: Telangana Information Technology Association (TITA) felicitated Telangana Water Development Corporation chairman V. Prakash Rao on his appointment as chairman. Ministers, MPs, MLAs and eminent personalities witnessed the event in Ravindra Bharati on Saturday.

Attending the felicitation of Prakash Rao, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao said Prakash Rao has vast knowledge on water resources. He recalled that Prakash Rao was the only person, who had explained everyone in Telangana about the injustices done to Telangana during statehood movement. He wrote several books on water resources in Telangana and condition of irrigation in the region.

Speaker S. Madhusudana Chary recalled his association with Prakash Rao and complimented him for his exemplary role in the neo-Telangana movement. “We fought the movement on water, resources and jobs and all the information needed on water was provided by Prakash Rao,” the Speaker added.

TITA global president Sundeep Kumar Makthala said Prakash Rao would do justice to the post and would work for a green and ecologically strengthened Telangana in future. He said TITA would do its best to support TWRDC in any form for the cause of State’s prosperity and in achieving the goal of irrigating one crore acres target of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

He also recalled how Prakash Rao explored water bodies, lakes and water resources during his visit to United States of America (USA) last year. TITA members felicitated Prakash Rao on the occasion.

Replying to the felicitation, Prakash Rao expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.  He said his only dream as a chairman of the Water Resources Development Corporation would be to see the dream of one crore acres brought under irrigation in Telangana.

When Telangana was formed, only 25,000 acre land was under irrigation, but the Mission Kakatiya and other irrigation schemes of the TS government paved the way for increase in the area under cultivation in the State.

Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, Speaker Madhusudana Chary, Council Chairman K Swamy Goud, Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy, Ministers Tummala Nageswara Rao, C Lakshma Reddy, Jagadeeshwar Reddy and others were present.

Besides, veterans who were part of the 1969 Telangana movement were also present. Prakash Rao’s mother Kausalya was also felicitated by the dignitaries. Prakash Rao hails from Palampeta village of now Bhupalapalli and former Warangal district. (NSS)
