Ten-year-old Dies After Getting Stuck In Lift’s Hoist Way
Visakhapatnam: A ten-year-old girl died on the spot when she accidentally got stuck between a moving elevator cabin and walls of the hoist way in an apartment located on the outskirts of the city on Sunday.
Swathi, the lone daughter of Pitta Pandu and Seethamma, went to the opposite apartment in Tarakarama Nagar to play with her friends on Sunday morning. She was moving downstairs at the time of the accident. Residents of the apartment say that she might have opened the door in a bid to catch her friends up staying outside. She could have slipped into the hoist way and got crushed.
The programme interlocks of an elevator usually do not permit the lift to move when the lift door is opened. As soon as the cabin door is opened, the lift halts, said an elevator operator. However, the police are trying to ascertain what could have really led to the accident.
The parents of Swathi migrated to the city two years ago from a village near Pusapatirega mandal of Vizianagaram district for earning a livelihood. They joined as caretakers of an apartment in Tarakarama Nagar near Madhurawada. They did not know that the cruel death for her daughter lurked in the opposite apartment where Pandu’s relatives were working as caretakers. Swathi went to play with their children on the fateful day.
