TDP conducted Janma Bhoomi as party event?
- Raghuveera writes to Governor, wants expenses collected
Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president N Raghuveera Reddy on Thursday wrote a letter to Governor ESL Narasimhan, requesting him to collect the total Janma Bhoomi (JB) expenditure from the Telugu Desam Party accounts alleging that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had conducted the event as the ruling party affair at the cost of the State exchequer.
Raghuveera Reddy alleged that the Janma Bhoomi was conducted in the State from January 2 to 11 as the ruling party affair. The Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers, elected representatives from the ruling party have made political speeches at the meetings turning it into the party affair. He took strong exception to the Chief Minister himself giving a call to the people to stand by the TDP and vote for the party in the 2019 elections if they wanted development. He further said that the TDP leaders have not allowed the leaders and elected representatives of opposition parties at the JB grama sabhas.
The Congress leader accused the Chief Minister of blackmailing the bureaucrats and official administration to make it a TDP’s political event rather than the government programme. The Janma Bhoomi, which was to involve all people and address the issues of all sections of the people, was restricted to the people belonging to the ruling party. The elected representatives, leaders and the people belonging to the opposition parties were not allowed to attend the Janma Bhoomi grama sabhas, he said.
Raghuveera alleged that the TDP leaders have used the police force to prevent people from raising their problems at the grama sabhas, while the leaders of opposition parties were beaten and arrested for venturing into the Janma Bhoomi programmes.
The Congress leader sought to inform the Governor that the TDP government had ignored the democratically elected representatives of the gram panchayats and the urban local bodies though the funds were spent from the government exchequer. The powers of the elected bodies were taken away and were vested with the Janma Bhoomi committees which were constituted with the leaders of the ruling TDP, he said.
The officers attending the Janma Bhoomi programme were made to work for the TDP in the last 10 days of the event, he alleged and blamed the Chief Minister for insulting the democratic spirit of the country. The Congress leader wanted the Governor to get the details of the total money spent from the government exchequer for this round of Janma Bhoomi and take it from the TDP account.
