T Congress legislators stage dharna for Assembly session
Hyderabad: Congress MLAs and MLCs staged a dharna near the Gandhi Statue in the Legislative Assembly area here on Monday demanding the state government to convene the Assembly session to discuss the problems facing the people in Telangana.
The state government has deployed huge police force and obstructed the Congress MLCs and MLAs to stage the dharna. However, the irate Congress legislators went ahead with their protest before the Gandhi statue but on the road outside the Assembly premises and raised slogans against the state government’s attitude. They demanded the government to convene the Assembly session immediately as people were facing a lot of troubles.
Opposition leader in the Assembly Jana Reddy expressed anger at the state government for deploying huge police force. He summoned Assembly Secretary Dr S Raja Sadaram and asked him as to why the government was creating fear psychosis in the state and why the government was not allowing the MLAs and MLCs inside the Assembly. It is nothing but dishonoring the public representatives, he said and opined that it was not proper for the state government to neglect the assurances made by it in the Business Advisory Committee meeting. Raja Sadaram said that he would bring the issue to the notice of the Speaker.
Jana Reddy told the media the state was facing a lot of troubles and there was a need to discuss them. He alleged that the government was trying not to convene the House. He alleged that the government was adopting suppressive attitude when the opposition parties and people took up democratic protests. The government was creating fear psychosis among the opposition parties by deploying a huge police force. He asked whether the government was afraid of convening the House or was it behaving arrogantly to run the House.
TPCC chief and Huzurnagar MLA N Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded the Chief Minister to tell as to why he was not convening the House for the last nine months. In United Andhra Pradesh, the then government used to run the House for 52 days in a year, but the present government was running the house only for 18 days. “Is the separate Telangana state created for this development”, he asked and alleged that KCR murdered democracy in the state. He made it clear that the Congress party would intensify its agitation in case the government failed to convene the House immediately.
Opposition leader in the Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir said that the Chief Minister will not speak other than lies. -NSS
