Swine flu toll in February is 216
NEW DELHI: Swine flu has taken a toll of 216 lives all over the country in just ten days of February, the Health Ministry said.
This figure for this year is much higher at 407 with Gujarat and Rajasthan accounting for the maximum number of lives.
A press release of the Ministry said the total number of HINI (swine flu) cases since January 1 this year to February 10 stood at 5157 cases. Largely the cases are from Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Telangana .
“The deaths due to H1N1 are in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Telangana”, the release added after a high level review meeting chaired by Health Secretary B P Sharma. In addition to the Director General, Health Services (DGHS) Dr. Jagdish Prasad, representatives of leading government hospitals and those from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) were present.
On the basis of advice given by experts, it was decided to advise health institutions treating swine flu cases to vaccinate health workers against the disease. To enhance the level of preparedness, additional medicines and masks were being procured.
