Pune: A 25-year-old youth, Gopikrishna Durga Prasad, hailing from Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh, committed suicide in Pune by jumping to his death on Wednesday night.

He had joined an IT company in Pune as a software engineer and had earlier worked in Delhi and Hyderabad in the same post.

On arrival in Pune, Durga Prasad checked into a hotel in Viman Nagar. On Wednesday night, he started worrying about his job, though it was only three days since he had joined duty. He first cut his wrist and hand with a blade, went to the terrace of the hotel, and jumped to his death.

Police have found a suicide note in which Durga Prasad wrote: “There is no job security in IT sector. I’m very much worried about my family.” His body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem. The body is being taken to Krishna district for last rites.

In the wake of techie’s death, software engineers in Pune have decided to form a union and “fight against IT companies which indiscriminately remove employees”.
