Students ransack CBFC office over film clearance
Hyderabad: Demanding immediate clearance for release of controversial movie ‘Sharanam Gachchami’, the activists of OU JAC, TS JAC and Schedule Caste Telangana Students’ Union stormed the regional office of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and ransacked the furniture and files on Tuesday.
The protesters alleged that the CBFC officials were deliberately refusing to give clearance for the movie release. They vandalized furniture, tore files and broke glass panes in the office. On receipt of the information, the Gandhi Nagar police rushed to the spot and whisked the protesters away to the police station.
Earlier, ‘Sharanam Gachchami’ film directed by Enumula Prem Raj of Warangal under Bommaku Productions banner, went to the CBFC regional office at Kavadiguda for clearance in the first week of January. However, the Board refused to issue certificate required for its public exhibition, even though the director had consented to make necessary changes in the movie. -NSS
