A Student From Andhra Pradesh Killed In a Car Accident In The US

Indian student at Northern Illinois University lost his life in an accident. The association of Indian students described him as an “energetic cricketer.”

Washington, D.C.: Sai Kumar Adluri, a student pursuing masters in electrical engineering at Northern Illinois University, was killed in a road accident on Sunday morning. He is from Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.

The victim’s car was reportedly hit by another car at the back killing Adluri on the spot. He was with his friend when the accident happened. His friend is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.

A native of Sri Bomma Raja Puram, a small town near Tirupati, Adluri was an “energetic cricketer,” according to the Indian association at the university. Adluri represented the university in the mid-western championship, the association said.

He was supposed to graduate in December 2017.

Adluri was a compassionate human being who never thought twice before lending his hand for help, the students said. He was a brother everyone wished they had, they said.

The association is working to send Adluri’s body back home. It has also set up gofundme page to raise funds for this purpose.

ECI launches online survey for NRIs

Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has initiated an online survey for overseas Indian citizens to assess their level of awareness about the registration and voting process.

The objective of the survey is to study and determine the rates of registration and participation among overseas electors. The ECI survey, launched in collaboration with Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) will help in gathering opinions and voting preferences of overseas Indians. The survey shall help in not only identifying information gaps but also in finding the preferred methods of voting which can subsequently be shared with the government and legislators. The link to the online survey is  www.everyvotecounts.in.

ECI has also launched an online competition, as a part of the initiative.  Participants can upload their original entries in categories like Slogans, Songs, Posters, Photographs, Essays and Short Film and Audio Visual formats. The winning entries will get round trip to India and a lifetime chance to be honoured by the Election Commission of India on National Voters’ Day, January 25, 2017 in New Delhi. The survey shall run through November-December 2016 while the online Competition will run through the month of November.

Dr Nasim Zaidi, Chief Election Commissioner, in his message, said: “We believe that the citizens must create a dialogue of their own to foster a vibrant democracy. Thus, join us in ensuring that “No Voter is left behind’. Let your voice be heard; express your creativity, share your dreams with fellow citizens and learn more.”

NRIs should invest in T State: Kavitha visits Chicago

  • Invest to transform Telangana into a golden state

HYDERABAD: Kavitha Kalvakuntla said that the NRIs across the globe can participate in the unique historical opportunity by making huge investments in the projects which represent a win-win situation both to the NRIs and to the Telangana State.

She had attended a reception organized by prominent business and community leaders, under the leadership of Iftekhar Shareef at his residence in Lincolnwood, Illinois.

“The newly-carved Telengana State is endowed with abundant natural resources, and the Government, under the stewardship of the Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao, has formulated a large number of innovative developmental projects in the fields of Pharmaceuticals, Hospitality, Media and Film Industry, Power Generation, Real Estate Development, Food Processing, Textiles, IT, Agriculture, Fertilizers, etc. with a view to transforming it into a ‘Golden Telengana State’,” said Kavitha, Member of Parliament.

The event was also graced by the Consul General of India, Ausaf Sayeed, former Mayor of Cicero city, Ramiro Gonzalez, and US Congressional candidate Raja Krishnamoorthi.

Kavitha said that the Telangana Government has enhanced the social security network at a staggering pace, in order to take better care of the poor, the needy and the aged.

At the national front, Kavitha pointed out that the relationship between the Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is vibrant, which is paving way for a multifaceted development in the State.  She lauded Narendra Modi profusely for his vision of redefining the federal concept that gives more power to the individual states to govern their destinies.

Ausaf Sayeed, who welcomed  Kavitha, said that he had the good fortune of meeting her father, Rao, during his visit to Hyderabad early this year and discussing specific proposals and initiatives.

Host Shareef, a native Telanganite, said that Telangana has a buoyant market for lucrative investments, especially in the area of the augmentation of solar energy.

Former Mayor Ramirez Gonzalez said that he looks forward to the opportunity to paying a visit to Telangana to advance business relationships in multiple areas.

Later, Raja Krishnamoorthi, US Congressional candidate, joined in commending Kavitha and in reiterating the importance of solar energy as a key area of investment and collaboration.

Keerthi Kumar Ravoori, Immediate-past FIA President presented a shawl and bouquet to Kavitha on behalf of FIA-Chicago. The event was attended by a large number of leading personalities from all walks of life.
