Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi had to face a bitter experience in Gujarat, as his convoy came under attack when he went to call up on the victims of floods.

Dhanera (Gujarat): Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had to face a bitter experience in Gujarat, as stones were pelted by unidentified persons on his car on Friday. The rear glasses of his vehicle were shattered, though no one was seriously injured in the attack.

Rahul was in Gujarat to meet flood victims.  Meanwhile, Congress Spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, Rahul was attacked with “cement bricks by BJP goons”, ”SPG with R suffered minor injuries; should be condemned unequivocally.”

According to reports, youth in the flood-affected areas welcomed him with black flags, and some of them later resorted to stone pelting on his convoy. Tension prevailed in the area for some time.

It may be recalled that Northern Gujarat was affected by the recent floods. While 4.5-lakh people became homeless, 200 people died due to the floods.

Rahul Gandhi was touring in Gujarat to call up on the victims and the farmers who lost everything. The incident took place in Dhanera in Banaskantha district. Around 61 people lost their lives in floods in this district alone.

Congress party senior leaders condemning the act alleged that BJP goons unable to stop him had resorted to the attack.

Banaskantha Superintendent of Police Neeraj Badgujar said a man threw stones at Gandhi’s car, breaking its rear glass, when he was on his way from Lal Chowk to the helipad in Dhanera.

Gandhi escaped unhurt, he added. “We have detained the person who threw stones on the vehicle of Rahul Gandhi,” Badgujar said.
