SpiceJet, known for its predominance in innovation within the aviation space has yet another feather on its cap in the wake of the ‘International Day of Yoga’. First time in the history of Indian aviation SpiceJet, in partnership with Isha Foundation has constituted this unique program wherein SpiceJet’s crew and Isha Foundation instructors would perform Upa Yoga (which is a simple yet powerful system that activates the joints, muscles and energy system) and incorporates pranayams, all practices specifically designed to be done on board SpiceJet’s long haul flights. Travelers would be encouraged to participate in performing travel-friendly practices themselves while seated.

The word “yoga” means “union” in Sanskrit, and at SpiceJet, the term has aesthetically combined ‘health’ and ‘heights’ with the airline’s first of its kind brand new initiative –  ‘ High on Yoga @35000 feet ’which is to take place on 21 June, 2015.

Around 50 dedicated Isha instructors and SpiceJet crew members specially trained to perform Upa Yoga will undertake a 10 minutes session on board, across the SpiceJet network. While hundreds of Isha Foundations volunteers will perform the simplest form of Yoga, Namaskar mudra, at SpiceJet check-in counters and boarding gates.

This unique program is expected to be witnessed by approximately thousands of SpiceJet customers and travelers at numerous airports across SpiceJet network. The airline along with Isha Foundation, also intends to share CD’s and handouts for a better impact and more effective recall.

“I would like to thank Isha Foundation for associating with us for this wonderful initiative and a cause that we firmly believe in. In our current life schedule, health usually takes a backseat but at SpiceJet we encourage our customers for Yoga which is not only an integral part of India’s cultural heritage but also has vital health benefits attached. And the most thrilling gesture about the initiative is the seamless fusion of health and heights that we have tried to explore for our customers by providing yoga while in mid-air. Infact, this doesn’t end here, we intend continuing propagation of yoga at 35000 feet above ground level months’ ahead.” said Sanjiv Kapoor, Chief Operating Officer, SpiceJet Ltd.

We always believed that if affluence comes, people will be well, but today you will see the most affluent countries are the most ailment-ridden. For all of this, introducing yoga into everyone’s life will provide a simple yet powerful process to create one’s health and wellbeing. It is not just about physical health, because mental ailments are also spreading rapidly along with the modernization of the world. The significance of yoga is that once you learn the practices, you do not need anyone’s help, a special place or any equipment. It can be done wherever you are. The science of yoga is a phenomenal gift to the overall wellbeing of the human being.

We have been in conversation with various governments and large businesses in the world and they are all looking forward to this possibility. We are very happy to empower SpiceJet for a greater level of success and service said Sadhguru, Founder, Isha Foundation

The program has been exclusively sketched for Boeing flights bound for destinations exceeding 1.50 hours. And the airline in association with Isha Foundation intends to carry out such initiatives in future as well.
